"Carol Of The Birds"
Cost: $5.00
This song was
written for two Australian girls who were living for the school year in
Fairbanks. It is an arrangement of a traditional Australian carol,
and six different species of Australian birds are mentioned in the lyrics.
It may be performed as a duet, or by a 2-part treble chorus. The original
carol was in 6/8 time and had a lilting rhythm; I was enchanted by it and
wanted to retain the "lilt", which is enhanced by the flute melody
in the introduction and interludes at the end of each verse. To
make the verses more cohesive and add to the anticipation between verses, each
of the piano/flute interludes pulls the music 1/2 step higher; and on the last
page of the carol the flute does a little trilling in imitation of the birds. Price:

"ETERNAL
THINGS"
The technique of pitting two melodies against each other has been very
popular in church music over the past few years. This little "short and
sweet" 2-part song could be sung by two groups of children, an SA choir, or
perhaps by children with parents or teachers. It is very simple and unassuming,
easy to learn and perform. PRICE: Free. Performance time: 2 minutes.

HAPPY HANUKKAH!
In the late summer of 1991, Dr. Suzanne Summerville
requested that I take several traditional Hanukkah songs and arrange them into
a song cycle for her Fairbanks Children’s Choir. I wrote the
accompaniment for piano, and later made a very simple arrangement of the piano
part for a beginning (children’s) orchestra. The cycle was premiered
at “Paddington Bear’s First Concert”, featuring the FCC and instruments,
in Fairbanks in December 1991. The children did very well, even singing
some of the lyrics in Hebrew, and they seemed to love performing the songs.
There are nine songs, some of which call for optional solo voice at the
beginning of the song (if desired), with the chorus coming in later. Cost $5.00

"I
WANT TO WALK IN THE SAVIOR'S PATH"
Cost: $5.00
Another piece using two melodies against each other, this song was written
for my grandson Colwyn's baptism, and won 1st place in the Children's Division
of the All-Church Writing Contest in 2005. It has since been performed SA by church choirs
and Relief Society choruses. Tamara Hann wrote the words. The song is simple but
beautiful, and is appropriate for any religious occasion, sung by children
and/or adults. Some of the words particularly speak of baptism, making it
especially fitting for that type of service. PRICE: $5.00 Performance
time: 2-3 minutes.
